Texans Show Promise As They Defeat The Niners

Being as it is just pre-season football, I will try to keep my praise in perspective.

Saturday the Texans convincingly handled the 49ers to a 20-9 victory in Houston. Matt Schaub went 11 for 14 for 128 yards and a touchdown late in the 2nd quarter. Arian Foster and the Texans' running game was stagnant until the second half.

San Francisco's offense seemed to hit a wall every time they came on the field. Managing only three field goals, Jim Harbaugh's offense definitely needs to be more proactive in the red zone. That seemed to be the problem for them last season as well, so if they want to make it back to the promise land, they cannot settle for field goals instead of touchdowns. That's not a good precedence to set and will catch up to them by December if the Niners do not fix it.

The most exciting play of the game came from Texans' Punt / Kick Returner Trindan Holliday in the 4th quarter when he took an   87-yard punt return to the house for the second Texans' touchdown of the game. Holliday is making a strong case for himself to make this team with two touchdowns to his credit thus far this pre-season. Third year man from LSU, Holliday has been cemented to the Texans' practice squad and injured reserve list. So if Trindan continues to produce touchdowns, he will force Head Coach Gary Kubiak to make Holliday the Texans' first ever Punt / Kick Returner Specialist that doesn't have another function or job on the team.

Houston and San Francisco both have work to do and since they both are division champs, they both will have harder schedules this year and the kinks will have to be worked out before week one
