The former Oklahoma State Cowboy said he was excited and thrilled to be a Texan. On Saturday, the Houston Texans signed the Cardinals DE to a 5 year/35 million dollar deal.
After releasing DE Anthony Weaver, Houston was looking for a young and powerful threat to place on the opposite side of Houston DE Mario Williams. In Smith, Houston gets there wish.
In the Super Bowl, Smith recorded 7 tackles and 1 sack.
Smith is also reunited with the Texans new Defensive Coordinator Frank Bush. Bush spent a couple years in Arizona on their staff before coming to Houston two years ago.
This acquisition does leave open the question now of who the Texans will choose with the 15th pick in the 2009 draft as many sports analysts poised the Houston to acquire one of the many talented D-lineman in this draft class. Only time will tell.
